Permanently Closed Restaurants in Los Angeles

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to some of Los Angeles’s most loved restaurants, old and new, due to the impacts of COVID-19.


We will continue to update this page as things move forward. For now, let’s remember the great ones that kept our hearts and bellies full.

101 Coffee Shop

Say it ain't so. Iconic Hollywood diner 101 Coffee Shop has officially closed its doors for good. Known for celebrity sightings and film appearances, it was also a neighborhood favorite where you can go for a cup of joe at any hour of the day or night. 



Cliff's Edge

3626 Sunset Blvd, 

Los Angeles, CA 90026


On Saturday, Silver Lake's Cliff's Edge announced that they are permanently closing their doors via Instagram. This spot was known for its tasty drinks, cuisine and beautiful outdoor dining experience.

We are sad to report the closure of Preux & Proper, a DTLA hotspot for authentic Southern eats, ranging from bomb po'boys to meats straight from the smoker. We'll miss coming here for some delicious cocktails and the New Orleans-inspired cuisine.

Amacita

9552 Washington Blvd

Culver City, CA 90232


Chef Josef Centeno announced the closure of Baco Mercat earlier this summer, and has sadly closed the doors of his Culver City operation, Amacita. Centeno says the restaurant will be closed for the foreseeable future, though he mentioned "we're evolving" via Instagram, so we hope to see more from this delicious Tex-Mex spot in the future.

Ma'am Sir

4330 W Sunset Blvd

East side Filipino restaurant Ma'am Sir closed its doors at the end of August. Open since 2018, this bright neighborhood spot that quickly became an essential in the area for pica-pica, shared Filipino plates. Eater reports that due to limitations of the space, owner Charles Olalia just was not able to make a patio dining situation work to continue business. Caffe Vita

Originally hailing from Seattle, Silver Lake coffee shop Caffe Vita has also announced their closure. The difficult choice was made due to rent increases, according to the company's Instagram.

Fig & Olive

8490 Melrose Pl

Known for their beautiful indoor-outdoor space at the corner of La Cienega and Melrose Place, Fig & Olive was once a bustling restaurant perfect for date-night or birthday outings serving up mediterranean cuisine. Fig & Olive has several sister restaurants, the closest being in Newport Beach, which still remains open.

Broken Spanish

1050 Flower St

Broken Spanish, the much-loved Mexican restaurant near LA Live, announced over the weekend via Instagram that their doors would be closing permanently. The restaurant became a popular spot for authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails in the downtown area. Chef Ray Garcia helmed the restaurant for the last five years, but due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, he has decided to shut down operations for the foreseeable future. Garcia's message to fans of Broken Spanish expressed the business's heartfelt gratitude for the community. We will miss the creativity of the cuisine at Broken Spanish, but look forward to continue our support of Garcia through his new taco project, Tacos MILA, here

Cuties COFFEE LA

Over the last three years, Cuties, an eastside coffee shop, became known not only for their caffeinated offerings, but for their offering of a safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals to learn, organize, and more. Former owner Virginia Bauman posted a heartfelt letter on Instagram over the weekend to let patrons know about the future of Cuties. In her letter, Virginia mentioned that having a storefront was no longer viable for the shop, hence their decision to shut down. The exciting news is, Virginia and her co-founder will be passing on the future of Cuties to Sasha Jones, now the company's CEO. Sasha will continue organizing and leading efforts with Cuties to support and collaborate with others in the community. to make change. You can donate directly to Sasha's efforts on Patreon here.

Patina

Massive restaurant group Patina has closed down their eponymous fine-dining restaurant located at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The news came late last week as reports came from laid off employees, according to Eater. Patina was a restaurant that has served as an elevated dinner choice for Angelenos over the last 30 years. Once located on Melrose Ave, it then later located to the Disney Hall. There is no word yet on whether Patina's other sit-down restaurants will close, though we will keep you updated as we have them. Somni/Bazaar

Celebrity chef Jose Andres will be closing his restaurants Somni and Bazaar located inside the SLS Hotel Beverly Hills, citing a contract termination.

Trois Mec

Trois Mec, one of Chef Ludo Lefebvre many concepts, closed its doors last week. Chef Ludo's other restaurants, Petit Trois Hollywood and Petit Trois Le Valley, are still open. The owners cited the pandemic as reason for closure. The restaurant's site says they can't wait to see customers again as soon as they re-open, so perhaps there is still a future in store for the Michelin star-earning Trois Mec.

Baco Mercat

Downtown LA has been home to Baco Mercat for nearly a decade, but just weeks ago, Chef Josef Centeno closed its doors. Baco Mercat was home to Centeno's signature Baco sandwich and a creative menu of Spanish-meets-Mediterrean favorites.

Pacific Dining Car Santa Monica

Last week, one of LA’s steakhouses, Pacific Dining Car, announced the closure of their Santa Monica location. Open since 1990, this 24-hour spot was a go-to for steak and lobster and classic cocktails, and was mainly a dine-in only spot, making the impact of COVID-19 incredibly difficult for the restaurant. The 100-year-old Pacific Dining Car DTLA still remains open for service.

Here's Looking at You

Earlier this July, owner of K-Town hangout Here's Looking at You announced the restaurant would be shutting down due to slow business in the area. A note from the owner, Lien, cited that they tried to make a to-go concept work, but as of now, they have decided to close. The sister restaurant of Here's Looking At You, All Day Baby in Silver Lake, is still currently open. Though we're extremely sad to see HLAY close their doors, we have hope we'll see more from the restaurant in the future.

Jun Won

Longstanding Koreatown restaurant Jun Won has decided to close at the end of July due to the COVID-19 pandemic and slowed business, reports the LA Times.  We are sad to say goodbye to this spot Angelenos adored for traditional Korean cuisine.

Din Tai Fung

Just a few days ago, Din Tai Fung announced the closure of their original Arcadia location in an Instagram post. Like many others, the restaurant mentioned the current economic climate as a major factor for making this decision. The dumpling chain has only announced the closure of this solo location, with others still remaining open. The Arcadia spot has been around for 20 years, and continued to be a cult favorite for Taiwanese cuisine.

Auburn

6703 Melrose Ave

A hop skip and a jump away from Melrose favorite Pizzeria Mozza was Auburn, which opened in March 2019. Auburn was meant to be a new take on fine dining in a stunning space, but just after a year of being open to the public, the team announced in May that the restaurant would be closing permanently due to the situation surrounding the COVID-19 crisis.

Four ‘N 20 Diner

5530 Van Nuys Blvd

Sherman Oaks, CA


The 40-year-old Four ‘N 20 Diner in Sherman Oaks announced its closure earlier this month. Four ‘N 20 was an all-day restaurant and a spot known for its delicious pies. Both locations of Four ‘N 20 (Sherman Oaks and Valley Village) are reported closed.

Sushi Ichi

633 S Arroyo Parkway

Pasadena, CA 91105


Located in a Pasadena strip mall, the unassuming Sushi Ichi closed its doors permanently immediately following the announcement of restaurant closures due to COVID-19 back in March. We’re not sure what the future holds for the omakase restaurant, but we’re hoping to see more from Ichiro-san, the Tokyo-trained chef who opened the spot.

Bon Temps

At the end of April, one of the newer additions to Downtown LA’s Arts District, the French-inspired Bon Temps, announced they’d be closing their doors. The restaurant, led by pastry chef Lincoln Carson, was open for just under a year.

The Wallace

Culver City, CA 90232


The Wallace, which called Culver City home for the last six years, has also closed up shop due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Wallace was a favorite for large parties with their communal seating and shareable plates. The restaurant closed on March 14, just as Stay-at-Home orders were being put into place in LA.

Stan’s Donuts

Stan’s Donuts, a mainstay for UCLA students and Westwood residents alike, closed their doors in April. Founded in 1965, Stan’s remained open for over 50 years. The owner, Stan Berman, left a message for his patrons on the site earlier this spring about his decision to close up shop. He cited COVID-19 as a major factor in the decision to close. Stan’s Donuts locations still remain open in Chicago, if you’re ever in the area.

The Pikey

British pub The Pikey has officially closed down, which was owned by Committed, Inc., the same parent company to Swingers. Eater reported back in April that the Pikey would be closing, and it looks like it officially has. If you're able, please donate to The Pikey Employee Relief Fund here.

Cafe 86

Cafe 86, a popular hangout for bubble tea and coffee in Pasadena has recently closed its doors. Cafe 86 still has other locations you can visit, find more here


Lincoln Pasadena

1992 Lincoln Ave

Known for their delicious breakfast food, easy all-day menu and beyond tasty desserts, Lincoln Pasadena announced via Instagram that they would not reopen, as of June 23. We will miss their exquisite eats and hope to see what owner Christine will do next.

Daily Grill Studio City

While many other Daily Grill locations have closed over the years around Los Angeles, the one location that remained was Studio City's, located inside the Laurel Promenade. We'll be sad to bid adieu to this classic American eatery known for its big plates and family-friendly atmosphere.


Jazz Cat Cafe San Gabriel Valley

San Gabriel Valley, CA 91776


Jazz Cat Cafe in SGV was known for its shabu shabu and hot pot offerings, and recently announced their closure. Their Arcadia location still remains open.

Hurachan

One of Santa Monica's ramen spots, Hurachan, is now closed. Their menu included a variety of Japanese dishes to customers in a building originally built in the early 20th century. 


Kogi Taqueria

3500 Overland Ave, Suite 100

Los Angeles, CA 90034


The permanent location of Roy Choi's beloved Kogi BBQ food truck has closed their doors in Palms, as announced via Twitter. All other Kogi operations continue to run, while Choi and company find a new home for the Taqueria. 


Casa Cubana

541 S Spring St Unit 124

Los Angeles, CA 90013


At the end of May, DTLA Cuban coffee shop Casa Cubana notified fans of their closure. The bright spot was the perfect spot to stop for a coffee, quick snack, or sandwich. Casa Cubana assured fans this is "only a farewell" for now, so we hope to see them thriving again soon.


Krimsey's Modern Cajun

Modern cajun vegan restaurant, Krimsey's, announced via their website and social media that they'd be closing their doors as of early June. You can still support Krimsey's by shopping their merch and cookbook. 


Plan Check DTLA

1111 Wilshire Blvd

Gastropub Plan Check DTLA has also closed its doors, following the closure of their Fairfax location some time ago. You can still support Plan Check by visiting their Sawtelle location for takeout and delivery.

Villa Blanca

Once a hotspot for Sunday brunch and spotting reality TV stars, Lisa Vanderpump's Beverly Hills restaurant Villa Blanca has shut down. 


Bibo Ergo Sum

116 N Robertson Blvd

At the end of June, West Hollywood cocktail bar Bibo Ergo Sum let their patrons know of their closure. Since 2017, BES has provided the neighborhood not only with creative cocktails but with a sense of community. 


Little Bar

757 S La Brea Ave

Known as one of Miracle Mile's favorite neighborhood bar, sadly Little Bar recently announced they'd be closing their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans of the space will miss the late nights with jukebox tunes and family-like company. 


Olive Tree Anaheim

Anaheim, CA 92804


Anaheim's spot for delicious Arabian food announced their closure on July 2 via a Facebook post. The restaurant is closing due to difficulties pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. Olive Tree was one of the city's go-to locations for celebratory feasts and a taste of the Middle East. 


101 Noodle Express Arcadia

Chinese restaurant 101 Noodle Express in Arcadia recently closed their doors, though their Alhambra location is still open. If you're in the area, ordering from the Alhambra location is a great way to still support the business. 


Plum Tree Inn

913 N Broadway 

Los Angeles, CA 90012


After 40 years of service, Chinatown's Plum Tree Inn has closed their doors at the end of June, according to NBC LA. NBC also reports that the restaurant had been closed since March 30, after initially trying a take-out format for business. Read the closing announcement from the restaurant owners here.

One of LA's most beloved bakeries and full-service restaurants is closing for good. The restaurant which served award winning frozen s'mores, cronuts and cookies temporarily closed back in March but unfortunately announced that they'd be leaving Los Angeles permanently. Celebrity Chef Curtis Stone will be taking over the building for a while with his four month picnic themed pop-up!


The Bazaar

After 12 years The Baazar LA has closed their doors along with their sister restuarant, Somni. Their pastries, paella, and tapas will be missed dearly! Chef Jose Andres' South Beach and Las Vegas locations will still be open. 


The Bellwether

After serving Los Angeles for the last 5 years The Bellwether recently closed. Their comforting menu full of pastas, delicious burgers, and steak helped serve frontline workers throughout most of the pandemic but unfortunately they couldn't survive relying solely on curbside service only. 



Cuties Coffee

710 N Heliotrope Dr.

Cuties was simply a neighborhood treasure. Since 2017 they have been serving Los Angeles coffee lovers the tastiest espresso, cappuccinos and donuts while making everyone feel extremely welcomed. Unfortunately in 2020 they closed due to Covid-19 but they will be missed dearly.



Bad Son Tacos

Located Downtown in a Japanese Market, Bad Son Tacos kept everyone full and happy with their unique tacos. Whether you tried their Cricket tacos or their Birria you were leaving satisfied. Taco Lovers around Los Angeles are so sad to see them closing their doors after a long and tasty run. 



The Golden State

This Fairfax gem, that provided excellent burgers along with fantastic nightly specials had to unfortunately close their doors on January 4th. The Golden State was open for 12 years serving Los Angeles quality American food. 



Monte 52

5200 Monte Vista St

Monte 52 wowed Los Angeles for the last 7 and 1/2 years with their delicious sandwiches and famous breakfast burritos. Their friendly staff made each dining experience a memorable one. Check their Instagram @monte52latropicana for updates on their new venture in Long Beach.
