How We DoLA with Jenn Laskey: LA's Key To Venues

Location. Location. Location.

Published August 7, 2026 by Brady Goodman-Williams

Over the past 24 years, Jenn Laskey has curated thousands of incredible events, with some of her most notable clients including Mirate, Stella West Hollywood, Fellow, The Preserve, Palm Sophia, The Dolce Group, and more. As the founder of RedLight Special Events + Weddings by Jennifer Laskey, she's known as “LA’s Key” to venues due to her amazing ownership-level relationships and eye to match any event or film shoot wishlist.

Her latest project was the resurrection of the recently shuttered Grandmaster Recorders, which she set out to make a turnkey event space, now developing the in-house food and beverage program.

Laskey also has a talent for interior design and historic restoration, and her lifeblood is admiring and preserving vintage architectural gems. Since 2001, she has lived only in vintage apartments and homes built between 1909 and the early 1930s! Her greatest project to date was her first home purchase, which she restored and designed – The Historic Hobart House, a 1909 Victorian influenced craftsman that has served as the backdrop for many amazing film, TV, and photo shoots.

THE LOCAL'S LIST is our weekly series where we tap locals to share their favorite spots, personal recs, and the kind of tips you usually only get from a friend.

Every Friday, a new person, a new subject, maybe a new friend?

After 27 years in LA with exceptional and avant-garde taste, she clearly has her eye on the pulse of what’s cool and unique to do in LA.

Here are five of her favorite locations around town:

Favorite Dance Studio: The Playground

7375 Melrose Ave

Los Angeles, CA 90046

Jenn Laskey & Ben Allen at The Playground

I have danced since I was 4 years old, and it’s when I feel the most myself. My favorite studio, The Playground, is in my neighborhood. The Playground is known as the place for young, uber-talented dancers showing off the latest steps with a live DJ, DJ Shai, who brings the energy and excitement to new heights.

First-timers and non-professional dancers have no reason to be intimidated. My friend Ben Allen - who founded the popular hip hop workout “Groov3” - teaches an all-levels class that is welcoming and fun. You can find me every Tuesday at his 8:00 pm class, busting a move!

Favorite Hotel & Restaurant: Petit Ermitage

8822 Cynthia St

West Hollywood, CA 90069

Petit Ermitage

The Petit Ermitage’s rooftop has been my go-to for dates, business meetings, and general artistic inspiration for over 15 years thanks to its European-inspired interior design. The vibes are transportive and take you to another time and place. They also offer unforgettable performances, such as the Toledo show, where sultry and cutting-edge vintage soulful singers meet erotic burlesque dancers in an intimate room.

Favorite Zen Breathwork & Yoga: Sivananda Yoga

Sivananda Yoga (previous West Adams location)

Sivananda is where I took my 2nd ever yoga class, and it has helped me relieve stress, find peace, and forge a deeper connection to my intuition. It’s classical hatha yoga, so it's nothing like modern hot yoga or power yoga. They mix pranayama breathing exercises and yoga and their teachers are authentic, kind and positive.

I enjoyed their historic home turned yoga sanctuary in West Adams for about four years, but they recently relocated to Santa Monica. Life as an event planner and running venues' event departments is all about managing excitement and stress. A guided breath of fresh air makes me feel balanced.

Favorite Dinner & Cocktails: Mirate

1712 N Vermont Ave

Los Angeles, CA 90027

Mirate

I love Mirate for so many reasons. I helped launch and ran the event department and am now on their event sales team. The space, service, food and drinks are all bar none. The interior design transports you to a sexy Tulum jungle feel with an array of charming indoor and outdoor spaces (also set in a 1920s building that is perhaps haunted by the ghost of Sarno, do you see a theme to my attractions here)?

Chef Alan Sanz’s cuisine is some of the best Mexican food in LA and beyond. I am more of a special occasion drinker, and their cocktails are insane, made by mad scientist mixologist Maxwell Reis, and have been awarded one of the best 50 bars in North America three years in a row. My favorite drinks are Compa and Guero.

Favorite Event Space: Grandmaster Recorders

1518 N Cahuenga Blvd

Los Angeles, CA 90028

Jenn Laskey at Grandmaster Recorders

Fate brought me to Grandmaster time and time again. I have a thing for historic buildings, and this one was originally built in 1920 as a silent movie theater. Back in 2017, I first saw the shell of the space, prior to its amazing adaptive re-use project, and met my now friend and business partner, building co-owner Rick Moses. I ended up working on the outside event sales team with the original venue operator starting in 2021. When he later closed the business just under a year ago, Rick and I masterminded resurrecting the space as a private event and filming space.

A year later my wildest dreams have manifested and the space I event direct and operate has become super popular for an array of star-studded events.

Bert Kreischer & Jenn Laskey at Grandmaster Recorders

Grandmaster Recorders is steeped in prolific music industry history with a creative energy you can FEEL (you can party within the walls which once housed records being made by Gwen Stefani, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Stevie Wonder, Ben Harper, and many more).

Jenn Laskey & Kaia Gerber, "The Shards" Wrap Party at Grandmaster Recorders

Another unique feature is that there are three totally different rooms with such different vibes and designs that can make for an amazing roaming party: The disco bar/lounge “Studio 71” in the original recording studio footprint, the rooftop bar, and the restaurant/main room, which I have repurposed to most often be a lounge/supper club setup. Nothing in my career has fulfilled me more than spearheading this project with amazing building owner partners who believed in me to operate the space with style, vibe, and hospitality.
