One of our favorite local labels, Stones Throw Records, is opening Gold Line bar in the heart of Highland Park. Gold Line is a vinyl bar with over 7,500 hand-picked records from label founder Peanut Butter Wolf's own collection.
Where it started....
Gold Line was inspired by Peanut Butter Wolf’s overwhelmingly impressive vinyl collection and came to fruition when they acquired a vacant storefront just below the Stones Throw offices.
“The idea for putting my records in a bar came to me after I did a DJ pop-up event on 11/11/11. I rented a U-Haul and brought around 100 crates of my records into a venue, chose 11 of my favorite DJs and had them spin records from the collection,” says Wolf.
What to anticipate...
Guest DJs and bartenders will play records exclusively from the bar’s eclectic library, which spans primarily from the 1960s through 1990s, over a topflight vintage hi-fi sound system.
Gold Line’s drink menu will be simple, focusing on highballs and three-part cocktails. The bar will also feature a thoughtfully curated list of whiskeys, mezcal and cognacs along with a natural wine list and selection of craft beers.
